Gitanjali Kashyap

Gitanjali has been in the field of Fashion for more than a decade. Surprisingly but for an intensive course at NIFT, she never had any formal fashion education! She has developed through the process of learning and experimenting.

Gitanjali is credited for having started the trend towards hand-brushed painting on fabrics in India. This technique was developed at Banaras. These paintings have been an integral part of her creations . The search for Bandhini (shibori) experts took Gitanjali to Kutch,

She gave a modern touch to the traditional bandhini work. She was the only Indian fashion designer invited to display her garments at the International Shibori Symposium held at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad in January 1997. She is also involved in a design project for the revival of handlooms and the development of a range of textile products in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Gitanjali has worked in close association with international apparel chains like the Dutch department stores de Bijenkort. They had together organized an Indian Festival in 1993, which was a big success. She also worked for a French mega department store Galleries Lafayette.

Gitanjali has been a part of the external faculty at NIFT Delhi and a member of their Board of Governors.
