Wendell Rodricks has been a well known but understated designer . His creations are popular amongst the celebrities and the prices are anything but haute. His first clients were his mother and cousins and his inspiration has been Julie Andrews a sin "The Sound of Music" where she makes clothes out of a curtain!
He was trained in hotel management from Mumbai's prestigious Institute Of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition. He went to Muscat where his talents in designing were noticed by an American visitor in Rodrick's sketchbook. He then went to America and Paris where he learnt some fashion designing and came to India. Initially it was tough to work in the Indian Fashion Industry as nobody accepted his simple creations. But soon he got a good hold in the Industry.
Rodrick was the first Indian to take Indian designs at an international fashion fair IGEDO in Dusseldorf. He plans to set up a costume museum in Goa putting together a collection of work from Goa and leave a rich cultural heritage for the coming generations. |
